A video of multiple escalators collapsing leading to massive damage inside a mall is being shared on social media platforms as a recent incident from BM Habitat Mall in Karnataka's Mysuru.
Those sharing the clip have uploaded it with a caption that said, "Many died in BM Habitat Mall, Mysore Escalator Collapse."
How did we find that out?: We performed a reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral video using the help of Google Lens.
This directed us to the same visuals uploaded on an verified YouTube channel named 'Disaster Strucks'.
It was posted on 10 June with a caption that said, "Mall Escalator Suddenly Collapses in Terrifying Accident."
The content was marked as an "AI art". Under the "how this content was made", one can see that it shows altered or synthetic content.
What did detection tools show?: Team WebQoof passed the YouTube video through two tools namely — 'Hive Moderation' and 'DeepFake-O-Meter'.
The first tool showed around 99.9 percent probability of the video being an AI one.
Three detectors of the second tool, too, showed a similar result.
What happened in a mall in Mysuru?: As per an Indian Express report, two men lost their lives after they fell from a four-storey shopping mall in Mysuru.
They were identified as Sunil (30), who worked as a technician at the BM Habitat Mall and a resident from Mysuru named Chandru (25).
Conclusion: It is evident that the video has been generated using AI tools.
