A video of four men brutally beating a cow is being circulated on social media platforms with users claiming that it to be a recent incident from Bangladesh.

What have users said?: Sharing the clip on their Facebook handle, a user captioned it saying, "Isckon Cow's farm attacked in Bangladesh. No human being in the world can commit such a brutal act on an helpless animal only because Hindus worship them...(sic)"

(We have refrained from adding any archive links due to the distressing nature of the visuals.)

What are the facts?: The claim is false as the viral video is unrelated to Bangladesh. The incident is actually from the Jamsher area of Jalandhar in Punjab, where four men were seen mercilessly beating a cow.

How did we find that out?: On conducting a reverse image search using the help of Google Lens, we found the same visuals posted by an X (formerly Twitter) handle on 19 November.

  • People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India replied to the post mentioning that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered by the Sadar police station under different sections.

News report: Taking this forward, we found a news report published in The Tribune after performing a keyword search on Google.

  • It mentioned that a clip of some men brutally beating a cow has sparked outrage in the city, with several people protesting outside PPR Mall demanding action against the perpetrators.

  • The group led by Shrist Bakshi of the Animal Protection Foundation, also demanded action against the owner of dairy farm.

  • The report talked about Bakshi pointing out a second video of a police personnel allegedly defending the owner of the dairy after claiming that the incident was two-year-old.

  • It further said an FIR was filed at the Sadar police station under different sections.

What did the FIR say?: Team WebQoof accessed a copy of the FIR, which was registered at the Sadar Jalandhar police station on 18 November at around 7:37 pm.

  • The FIR mentioned that after receiving the viral clip, the national president of Shree Govind Gau Raksha Dal, Abhishek Bakshi, informed the local police.

  • The video was said to be near Ghuman Dairy Farm in the Jamsher area of Jalandhar.

  • The FIR further said that the dairy farm's owner had accepted in front of the police that the video was from his dairy.

  • The complainant urged the authorities to take action against the owner of the farm as well.

Conclusion: It is clear that the video is unrelated to Bangladesh or the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
