TRUE OR FALSE?

The image is morphed and the cartoon has been altered to depict PM Modi in the manner seen.

A reverse image search of this image led us to the original, which is actually by American political cartoonist David Horsey for the Los Angeles Times on 14 May 2012.

The image has been altered to depict PM Modi in the manner seen.

In fact, the manufactured image also carries Horsey’s signature, clearly mentioning that it is from an LA Times edition dating back to 2012.

In addition, the manufactured image carries another signature of one @_MiteshPatel. However, this Twitter handle remains suspended.

FIR AGAINST ONE OVER CARTOON

When we further checked Twitter for more information on Patel, we found that the BJP Karnataka’s IT Cell had filed an FIR against Patel in 2017.

A report by The News Minute stated that the Karnataka BJP had filed cases against Patel for tweeting several “vulgar’ cartoons of PM Modi.

This particular case had been filed against Patel for a cartoon where he had made references to the recent controversy over ABVP members issuing rape threats to a Kargil martyr's daughter. In the FIR, Patel was accused of promoting enmity between groups, publishing obscene material on social media, and inciting people to cause offence.
