A video of a man sliding down a waterlogged road is being shared on the internet with users claiming that it shows recent visuals from Marina Beach in Tamil Nadu's Chennai.
What are the facts?: The video could be traced back to at least June of this year and was actually recorded in Pune, Maharashtra. It has no connection with Chennai or Tamil Nadu.
How did we find that out?: We performed a reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral video and found the same visuals shared on a Facebook handle named 'Being Punekar'.
The video was published on 25 July carrying text that said, "It's never a dull moment in Pune."
Other visuals from the same location: On performing a keyword search on Google, we came across a news report published in News 18.
It was published on 8 June and mentioned about a man surfing down a waterlogged road in Pune.
The report carried a link to an X post, which had gone viral and received several reactions from people on social media platforms.
Another round of reverse image search on the above post directed us to the same visuals shared by another X account named 'Punekar News'.
It identified the location as near Golf Club Chowk in Yerawada, Pune.
A closer look at the clip also showed the logo of credit card company, Mastercard.
Geolocating the place: Taking this forward, we searched for Mastercard in Yerawada on Google Maps.
With the help of the 'street view' option, we were able to locate the exact place where the viral clip was filmed.
Tamil Nadu's govt fact-check unit clarifies: Responding to one such claim, the fact-checking unit of the government in Tamil Nadu on X said that the video is from Pune and is being falsely shared as one from Chennai.
Conclusion: It is clear that the video is old and unrelated to Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
