A video of a man dragging, slapping, and pouring soil over a woman on what appears to be a road is being shared on the internet as a recent incident from Congress-ruled Karnataka.
What's the claim?: The clip was shared to claim that it shows a 65-year-old Muslim man trying to bury his 62-year-old wife alive as he married his 42-year-old sister.
How did we find that out?: On conducting a Google Lens search on the keyframes of the viral video, we came across a report published in EShomoy that carried the same visuals.
The report said that a man named Khalilur Rahman tried to bury his sick wife named Khosheda Begum alive in the courtyard of their house.
It mentioned that the wife had bedridden for almost six years. The report further said that the husband was allegedly enraged by the wife's defecation in bed.
The incident was recorded and posted on Facebook by the couple's grandson named Md Khokon (19), which attracted criticism from different users.
Sribardi Police Station Offer-in-Charge (OC) Md Anwar Zahid said that the police had reached the spot after receiving information, however, locals said that the matter had been resolved socially. Zahid said that legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.
Other sources: A Prothom Alo report added that Khosheda Begum is paralaysed and has been bedridden for six years.
While some people were standing around when Rahman slapped his wife and tried to bury her, nobody came to help or rescue her.
The locals said that Rahman was tired of taking care of the victim and was struggling to afford the treatment and medicine.
The same visuals were also uploaded on the official YouTube channel of Protidiner Bangladesh on 9 August.
Its title when translated to English said, "Attempt to bury sick wife alive, video goes viral | Protidiner Bangladesh".
Conclusion: Evidently, the video is from Bangladesh and has no relation to Karnataka as claimed on the internet.
