CPI(ML) polit bureau member Kavita Krishnan on Sunday, 17 February, shared a photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in which the duo are seen laughing.

Krishnan had re-tweeted another user’s post that claimed:

"After the Pulwala incident, the entire nation is in tears. But Modi and his friends like Nitish ji and Sakshi Maharaj are smiling, holding election campaigns With Sakshi Maharaj using a funeral procession as a campaign. But who will question them? Everybody is busy targeting Kashmiri students and traders (sic)." (Translated)

Krishnan's tweet had close to 300 retweets at the time of writing this article.

Krishnan had quote tweeted one Dhirendra Jha's tweet, who had said: "Such laughter amidst such somber mood. It really is difficult for the common man to understand a politician."

TRUE OR FALSE?

While the photo is true and not morphed in any manner, it is not a recent one.

A reverse image search showed that the photo had been used by several media houses time and again for stories written on the BJP-JD(U) alliance in Bihar.

The photo is from 2015, when the PM Modi and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar had shared stage in Patna.

As for the photo, it appears to have been clicked on 25 July 2015 in Patna, when PM Modi had visited the city to inaugurate a slew of projects – sharing stage with Kumar for the first time after a hiatus.

Interestingly, the two parties were not in an alliance then, and both Modi and Kumar had used the stage to trade subtle barbs at each other.
