A video of a woman arguing with airline staff while standing next to a kangaroo holding a boarding pass has gone viral on social media.
The claim: Those sharing the 10-second clip have claimed that it shows a woman trying to board a flight with her pet kangaroo.
How do we know?: When we watched the clip, we noticed that the words being spoken in the video did not sound like any existing language.
Additionally, the text on the kangaroo's harness and boarding pass were blurred and nonsensical, which is a tell-tale sign of a visual being AI-generated.
When we ran a reverse image search on the clip, we found that the video was first shared by an Instagram account named 'Infinite Unreality', which had shared it with an 'AI Info' tag.
This tag indicates that the content shared was created or manipulated using AI.
A closer look at the account's bio said that it showed 'unreality'.
We also saw that it regularly shares AI-generated content.
What did AI detectors say?: We ran the clip through Hive Moderation's AI-generated content detection tool.
It said that the clip was 99.9 percent "likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content."
We also submitted the video the Bengaluru-based startup Contrails.ai's AI generated content detection tool and will add the findings of their analysis when it is complete.
Conclusion: An AI-generated video of a kangaroo trying to board a plane has gone viral as a real video of such an incident.
