How do we know?: When we watched the clip, we noticed that the words being spoken in the video did not sound like any existing language.

  • Additionally, the text on the kangaroo's harness and boarding pass were blurred and nonsensical, which is a tell-tale sign of a visual being AI-generated.

  • When we ran a reverse image search on the clip, we found that the video was first shared by an Instagram account named 'Infinite Unreality', which had shared it with an 'AI Info' tag.

  • This tag indicates that the content shared was created or manipulated using AI.

A closer look at the account's bio said that it showed 'unreality'.

We also saw that it regularly shares AI-generated content.

What did AI detectors say?: We ran the clip through Hive Moderation's AI-generated content detection tool.

  • It said that the clip was 99.9 percent "likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content."

We also submitted the video the Bengaluru-based startup Contrails.ai's AI generated content detection tool and will add the findings of their analysis when it is complete.

Conclusion: An AI-generated video of a kangaroo trying to board a plane has gone viral as a real video of such an incident.
