An image of a highway is being circulated on social media platforms with a claim that it shows a recent visual of Jammu National Highway and that it will connect Kashmir Valley with the other states in India.

What are users saying?: Those sharing the image have said, "Jammu National highway connecting Kashmir Valley with the rest of India."

(Archives of similar claims can be found here, here, and here.)

What are the facts?: The claim is false as the viral image is unrelated to India. It actually shows a bridge named 'Hoengseong Bridge', which is located in the Gangwon-do province of South Korea.

How did we find that out?: We conducted a reverse image search on the viral image to find more details about it. A Google search then showed up results, including one in Korean that identified the bridge as 'Hoengseong Bridge'.

  • Taking this forward, we performed a keyword search in Korean and found the same image uploaded on a blog website.

  • It was published in July 2006 and it, too, identified the bridge as Hoengseong Bridge that is located in Gangwon-do in South Korea.

Other sources: We found a drone view of the Hoengseong Bridge that was uploaded on an unverified YouTube channel named 'Meritz Company'.

  • It was posted on 1 June 2021 and was titled, "[Meritz Company Construction Case] Gangwon-do Hoengseong Bridge Windbreak Drone Filming (4K Video/DJI AIR2 Mavic Air 2)."

Comparing visuals: On comparing the viral image to the visuals available in the YouTube clip, we could conclude that both of them showed the same bridge.

Geolocating the place: Team WebQoof searched for the bridge's name in Google Maps and used the option of 'satellite view'. This showed a similar structure to what was seen in the viral image.

Conclusion: Evidently, the viral image is old and unrelated to India.
