A video showing Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge addressing former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Rajya Sabha.

What does it show?: In the clip, Kharge asks, "What is the use of consideration? Sir, you're so afraid of the government, how will it be? You should be protecting us."

  • To this, Dhankhar responds by saying that the assertion will be deleted from the records, explaining that "India's farmer and his son are not afraid of anyone, in any situation."

  • This clip is being shared to claim that Dhankhar made this statement a day before resigning from office as vice president, citing medical reasons, despite appearing to be cheerful and in good health on 21 July.

Another post sharing this video with the same claim can be seen here.

Is it true?: No, the claim is false.

  • The clip shows a part of Rajya Sabha discussions held on 4 April and is not recent as claimed.

How did we find this out?: Firstly, on closely observing the video, we noticed that the date stamp in the video read '04/04/2025'.

  • This clearly shows that the video is from April and was not recorded in July, when Dhankhar resigned.

  • Next, we carried out a search using 'Dhankhar farmer's son' as keywords, which led us to an NDTV report dated 4 April.

  • It mentioned that the exchange took place when Kharge requested a discussion about the violence in Manipur to be held.

  • We also looked for the full video of this session on YouTube and found India Today's livestream from 4 April.

  • At the 6:12:18 time stamp of the video, Kharge's statement about Dhankhar being afraid can be heard, which leads to part seen in the claim.

  • Kharge asked Dhankhar about being afraid after asking him to hold a discussion about the violence in Manipur the following day, saying that "the request had failed."

Conclusion: An old video about former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar saying that farmers and their sons were not afraid of anyone under any circumstance is being shared as a recent one.
