A video showing several explosions in a residential area is going viral online to claim that it shows strikes conducted by Iran on Israel.

What's the truth?: This video is from Iraq and dates back to 2003. It is unrelated to Israel or Iran.

How did we find out the truth?: We performed a reverse image search on some of the keyframes of the viral video using Google lens.

  • This led us to a YouTube video shared by CNN on 21 July 2016.

  • The title stated, " Operation Shock and Awe: Iraq, 2003".

  • Taking a cue, we performed a relevant keyword search on Google which led us to reports about this attacks.

  • It stated that on 20 March 2003, the US carried out its first airstrikes in Baghdad, Iraq and also carried a screenshot from the viral video.

Conclusion: An old video from Iraq showing several explosions is being falsely linked to Iran-Israel conflict.
