Sharing an image of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, a claim is going viral that India has been removed from the "core committee" of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates (BRICS) on social media platforms.
(Archives of similar claims can be found here and here.)
Is the claim true?: We found no evidence to prove the validity of the claim.
There are latest reports on the BRICS website noting deals and work agreements between India and other BRICS countries.
What we found: At first, we checked for the BRICS committee by running a simple keyword search, however, we did not find any results.
Even the BRICS website does not state anything about a BRICS core committee.
We, then, went to the news section of BRICS, which showed us a latest report from 29 November noting, "Russia Is Giving Indian Exporters Greater Market Access New Delhi"
It was about increasing Indian agricultural and food exports in the Russian market.
Conclusion: The viral claim is false as we did not find any credible evidence to prove the claim.
