A post is doing the rounds on social media platforms claiming that India Post has recently decided to discontinue the usage of red letterbox from 1 September.
What have users said?: Those sharing the video have captioned it saying, "Goodbye, Red Letter Box: India Post Has Decided To End Usage of Post Box from 1st Sept. 2025."
How did we find that out?: On conducting a keyword search on Google, we came across a news report published in The Hindu.
It said that Chief Post Master General of Telangana Circle, PVS Reddy, has said that the red letterboxes are not being phased out and were being reimagined and digitally monitored.
He pointed out that Telangana continues to maintain over nine thousand letterboxes.
What did India Post say?: The official X handle of India Post Office clarified that the red letterboxes are not going anywhere.
The post shared on 7 August said, "India Post is evolving with the times, but some things will remain the same- always. We have carried love, news, and stories for generations... And guess what? Our red letterboxes are here to stay..."
Conclusion: It is evident that the viral claim of India Post discontinuing red letterboxes is false.
