After former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh passed away, an image is being circulated on the internet to claim that it showed an old instance of him touching the feet of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.
What did the claim say?: The text on the image suggested that Dr Singh, who was 85 years old at that time, touched the feet of a much younger Gandhi.
What's the truth?: The claim is false. The image could be traced back to 2011 and shows a Congress representative touching the feet of Gandhi at the Indian Youth Congress' national level convention in New Delhi.
How did we find that out?: A simple Google Lens search on the image directed us to the same visual uploaded on stock image website named — Getty Images.
The image was taken on 29 November 2011.
Its caption said, "A representative touches the feet of Sonia Gandhi as Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi looks on during the Indian Youth Congress's national level convention of Elected Office Bearers in New Delhi on Tuesday."
Team WebQoof found other visuals from the same event and found that Dr Singh was seen wearing a blue turban. This made it further clear that the viral image did not feature the former Prime Minister.
A recurring claim: Team WebQoof had previously debunked the same claim, when it was viral on social media platforms in September 2018. You can read our fact-check here.
Conclusion: The viral image does not show Dr Singh touching Sonia Gandhi's feet.
