Amid the ongoing violence in West Bengal's Murshidabad, a video of a group pelting stones at a few people is now being circulated as a recent incident from the state.
What did the post say?: The text inside the clip said that West Bengal is facing a similar situation like Bangladesh. The user further suggested implementation of President's rule in the state.
What is the truth?: The claim is false. The video dates back to April 2024, when a mob had reportedly attacked a family with sticks and stones in Rajasthan's Jaipur due to a land dispute.
How did we find that out?: We performed a reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral clip and came across similar visuals published in a report by India TV.
The report said that a mob of miscreants had attacked a family with sticks and stones in Sanganer, which is the constituency of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.
It mentioned that around 40-50 people were a part of the mob that was there to capture land.
The victim, Shankarlal Suiwal, told the media outlet that dozens of people forcibly tried breaking through the main door of his house.
ETV Bharat, too, had shared a report about the incident on their website.
Other news reports: A news report in One India said that Rajasthan Police paraded 10 miscreants who were involved in hooliganism.
The complainant alleged that the accused had attacked his family with sticks, stones, and iron rods over land.
The report further mentioned that about five people were injured due to the stone pelting.
An Aaj Tak report identified the main accused as Nandkishore Meena and Subhash Chand Maderna. The report said that the accused were arrested soon after the complaint was filed.
Recent update on Murshidabad violence: A recent report published in Times of India said that normalcy is starting to return in Murshidabad district after several shops were closed and families were displaced due to violence.
The Additional Director General (Law and Order), Jawed Shamim, said that both Malda and Murshidabad administrations are working together to ensure peace in the affected areas.
Shamim further said that around 210 individuals have been arrested so far.
Conclusion: The video is old and is being falsely linked to the recent violence in Murshidabad.
