Social media users are sharing a video that shows the everyday work routine of a Microsoft employee, claiming that the clip was from one of the technology giant's offices in the United States of America (USA).

Users claimed that the corporation had hired Indians amid massive layoffs for cheap labour.

Those sharing wrote, "Microsoft laid off 16,000 employees this year while applying for thousands of H-1B visas to replace American workers with cheap foreign labour. That's why all the employees you see in this video are Indian." (sic.)

(Archives of similar claims can be found here and here.)

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false.

  • The video shows Microsoft's branch in Hyderabad, India and not the USA.

What we found: At first, we divided the video into multiple screenshots and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them.

  • We came across the same video on Instagram by a user named Mansi Singhal. It was uploaded on 8 February.

  • The user captioned her post as, "Work, good food, and pretty views at Microsoft Hyderabad." (sic.)

  • This cleared the claim that the video was not shot in the USA.

  • We went through Singhal's profile and noticed that her Instagram bio read 'Delhi,' as her location.

  • The user's post from 8 June showed a video of her work life at Microsoft's office in Noida, Uttar Pradesh in India.

We have reached out to the user for her inputs and the story will be updated when we receive a response.

Some context: Such posts are being shared after US President Donald Trump criticised leading American firms such as Google, Microsoft, and Apple for outsourcing jobs by hiring Indian workers and manufacturing in China, declaring that “those days are over” and urging companies to “put America first” by investing in domestic jobs and infrastructure, reported Mint.

Conclusion: A video from Microsoft's Hyderabad office showing an employee's everyday life has gone viral as one from the USA.
