An image showing player rankings for the Men's International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International (ODI) has gone viral on social media.
In the image, the names of Indian cricketers such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not listed, despite their accolades.
Those sharing the image claimed that Sharma and Kohli's names had been removed from the ranking chart.
What we found: At first, we ran a Google reverse image on the viral image to check whether it had been reported by a trusted news outlet or if there was any official announcement by the ICC regarding the same.
However, we did not find any credible reports to verify the claim.
We, then, went onto the ICC website and checked the rankings.
Team WebQoof found that Sharma was second and Kohli had ranked fourth in the charts for batting.
This was unlike the viral image where Pakistani cricketer Babar Azam was at the second spot and Sri Lankan cricketer Charith Asalanka was at the fourth spot.
Additionally, both Sharma and Kohli have retired from other forms of cricket and remain active in the ODI.
Conclusion: A fake image has gone viral to falsely claim that it shows Sharma and Kohli not in the ICC ODI rankings chart.
