An image showing a purported outdoor advertisement featuring Amul's logo has gone viral on social media.
The advertisement refers to the United States’ recent decision to hike tariffs on Indian exports.
It stated, “Now, Made in India is a luxury brand in the US (sic)."
What we found: At first, we ran a Google reverse image search on the image and were led to post on Threads by an account named 'Marketing Maverick.'
It featured a similar image as the viral post, except Amul's logo was missing in their post.
We, then, checked Amul's social media and website to find whether they had put out any such billboard. However, we did not find this on their official handles.
While going through Amul's Instagram handle, we found a poster related to the US tariffs which was uploaded on 4 April.
It featured a drawing of US President Donald Trump speaking at a podium with a chart in his hand.
The post was captioned, "Topical: President Trump unveils a controversial tariff chart!" (sic.)
We also went through their website and found the image of this poster.
This billboard was rolled out when President Trump announced reciprocal tariffs on imports from approximately 90 countries in April 2025.
We also checked the viral image on 'Fake Image Detector' which noted that it looked "computer generated or modified image."
Conclusion: A fake Amul advertisement has gone viral, falsely claiming to comment on the US tariffs imposed on India.
