CLAIM

A set of viral images on social media claim that a US woman, named Catherine Bridge, holds the world record for giving birth to the most babies in a lone pregnancy – 17 identical boys.

Several social media users shared similar posts on Facebook and Twitter.

TRUE OR FALSE?

The claim around the images is false. Firstly, the image of the pregnant woman has been morphed using an editing tool.

Secondly, the claim that is doing the rounds on social media has been picked up from an article published by a satirical website called World News Daily Report.

Further, searching the keywords ‘USA+17+babies’ on Google led us to the article published by World News Daily Report.

The narrative mentioned in the article is similar to the one in the viral posts. This website is a satirical website which is mentioned at the bottom of the website.

The disclaimer’s text reads: ‘The World News Daily Report assumes all responsibility for the satirical nature of its articles and for the fictional nature of their content. All characters appearing in the articles in this website – even those based on real people – are entirely fictional and any resemblance between them and any person, living, dead or undead, is purely a miracle.’

Also, another image used in the viral post, of several babies dressed in blue, has been picked from this article.

Lastly, the third picture which shows a man with babies all around him is an old picture of Dr Robert Bitler, who is a US-based obstetrician and gynecologist. Dr Bitler has used this photograph as the cover photo of his Facebook page, which was posted on 3 August 2012.
