A video of a person talking about how a cremation ground has been closed in Delhi is being circulated on social media as a recent incident, where users have claimed that it happened after the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was passed.

  • Those sharing the clip have uploaded it with a caption that said, "First case after Waqf Bill".

The same video is getting picked on other social media platforms as well, such as Facebook. More archives of similar claims can be found here, here, and here.

What's the truth?: The claim is false. The video could be traced back to at least December 2017 and has no connection with the recent Waqf (Amendment) Bill.

How did we find that out?: We divided the video into several keyframes using the help of a video verification tool named 'InVID' and conducted a reverse image search on them.

  • A Yandex search directed us to the same video posted on an unverified YouTube channel called 'Niyaz Shaikh'.

  • It was shared on 26 December 2017.

  • On conducting another round of reverse image search, we came across the same video published on an unverified YouTube channel on 23 December 2017.

  • Its title when translated to English said, "What did RSS and the administration do with a Muslim funeral".

Conclusion: It is evident that the video is old and is being shared with a false claim on the internet.
