CLAIM

A video of a crowd, purportedly Rohingya and Bangladeshi refugees, heckling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in West Bengal is being widely circulated on social media.

The caption shared along with the video reads: "2019 के लोकसभा चुनाव में अगर भारतीय जनता पार्टी का समर्थन नहीं दिया तो यह घटना पूरे भारत में जल्दी देखने को मिलेगा....!!

The message, written in Hindi, roughly translates to: “If BJP is not supported in the Lok Sabha 2019 elections, this incident will be witnessed soon in the entire India. The BJP workers were treated like this by Rohingya Muslims and Bangladesh refugees in West Bengal... when they passing through the areas of Rohingya and Bangladeshi refugees. President’s Rule is required in West Bengal."

Posts with similar claims were shared by several individual users and pages on Facebook.

Tweets with the same video were also spotted on the micro-blogging website.

THE TRUTH

The claim made in the video is partially true. While the video is from an incident where BJP workers were heckled by a crowd, the incident is not from West Bengal.

Although the audio track in the video is not very clear, on listening closely, one can make out that the language being spoken by the crowd is Gujarati.

This can be confirmed with a simple reverse image. The results returned versions of the video dating back to 2017.

The reverse search led to a video titled 'BJP bike rally at Surat is welcomed by angry crowd No Media will show u this', shared by a YouTube page 'The Big Picture'.

On digging further, by searching for videos of BJP rallies in Surat in 2017, the original clip, shared by ABP Asmita channel, was found.

ABP Asmita is the Gujarati arm of the ABP news group. The video was originally posted on 7 December 2017.

Thus, the claim made in the viral post is false.
