BJP Delhi Shares Altered Image of Dilapidated Road Taking Dig at AAP Govt

A photograph of several potholes on a road is going viral on social media platforms with users claiming that it shows a recent visual of a dilapidated road in Delhi.

Who shared it?: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi and the party's IT head Amit Malviya shared the image on their respective X (formerly Twitter) handles to take a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Are these claims true?: While the viral image is indeed from Delhi, it has been altered to add more potholes to mislead the viewers.

What led us to the truth?: A simple reverse image search using the help of Google Lens and found a similar visual uploaded on stock image website — Getty Images.

  • The image was uploaded on 30 September 2024.

  • Its caption said, "Potholes seen over road near NSIC Complex as Atishi, Chief Minister of Delhi seen along with PWD officials inspects the condition of Outer Ring Road at Kalkaji on September 30, 2024 in New Delhi, India. Chief Minister inspected and identified damaged roads across the city and instructed official to ensure a pothole-free national capital by Diwali."

Comparing visuals: Team WebQoof compared the viral image to the image uploaded on Getty Images and found that the former has been edited to add several more potholes.

  • The red highlight the other edits made in the viral image, whereas, the yellow highlight shows the similarities.

  • We further found other visuals from the same location uploaded on the stock image website, which showed a deteriorated condition of the road.

Conclusion: It is evident that the viral image has been altered to add more potholes.
