Fact-Check: Did a Bihar Teen Build This Plane From Scraps With ₹7,000? No!

The video shows a plane built by one Julhas Mollah from Manikganj, Bangladesh.

A video showing a lightweight aircraft taking off from an open ground has gone viral on the internet, where users have claimed that it shows a plane built by one Avinesh Kumar from Bihar's Muzzaffarpur.

The claim: Those sharing this plane have referred to Kumar as a teenager who purportedly built the aircraft himself, from scrap materials, for ₹7,000.

Who shared it?: Apart from social media users, news organisations News18 and Times Now published this video with similar details.

But...?: The claim is false, as the video is not from India.

• We were able to trace the visuals back to one Julhas Mollah from Bangladesh's Manikganj, who reportedly built this ultra-lightweight aircraft himself.

How do we know?: A reverse image search on the viral video using Google Lens led us to a YouTube video uploaded in March 2025.

• The video, shared by a channel called Bangladesh Guardian, showed similar visuals and its title mentioned that it showed "Julhas from Manikganj" flying his handmade aircraft.

• Taking a cue from this, we ran a keyword search using the term 'Julhas bangladesh aircraft'.

• This search showed us reports from Bangladeshi news outlets like The Daily Star, The Business Standard, and The Financial Express, which carried visuals resembling the viral claim.

• These reports said that 28-year-old Julhas Mollah from Shibalaya upazila built this radio-controlled aircraft using aluminium, stainless steel, and water pumps, which weighs around 100 kilograms.

• Mollah, who had studied up to Class 10, had previously attempted to build ultra-lightweight aircrafts but was unsuccessful. After a year of dedicated work, he built the plane in the viral video.

• The Daily Star shared other visuals of the aircraft, which reportedly uses a litre of fuel to fly for 25 to 30 kilometres, crediting them to 'Julhas Molla/RC Life/YouTube'.

• We looked for Mollah's YouTube channel and found that it was named 'Create by Julhas'.

• Here, a video showing the same aircraft was shared on 28 February 2025.

• More visuals showing the same plane, along with Julhas providing details about the aircraft and its construction, can be seen here, here, and here.

• The channel led us to Julhas' Facebook pages (here and here), where he had shared more visuals of the plane.

• These pages, too, mention that Julhas is from Manikganj, Bangladesh.

The Quint reached out Julhas over email, where he confirmed that he built the plane himself, that the viral video is indeed his video and that he is from Bangladesh.

Discussing details, Julhas told us that it took him two years for research and six months to build the plane. "It cost two lakhs to make it, 10 lakhs on research was spent," he added.

Conclusion: A video of an aircraft from Bangladesh is being shared with the false claim that a teen from Bihar built it.
