Assam singer Zubeen Garg has made headlines once again, this time regarding a three-year-old case. Garg was sentenced to six months of jail and a fine of Rs 5000 for slapping a minor boy in a public space in 2013.

According to Indian Express, Garg's sentence was delivered by the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Guwahati, which held him guilty under sections 323 and 506 of the IPC.

The court however told Garg that he could appeal in a higher court against the verdict- which was later reiterated by Garg's lawyer Jonmani Neog who said that they would now 'definitely go to a higher court'.

When Garg had slapped the boy in 2013, the boy's father Arup Borbora had filed an FIR with the police. Garg had later gone ahead and revealed the name of the boy, which is against laws in order to protect the child, prompting the father to file another FIR.
