‘Vikas Won, Casteism Lost’: Modi’s Victory Speech After Elections
After winning the elections in his home state of Gujarat, here’s what PM Narendra Modi had to say.
After emerging victorious in both Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a victory speech at the BJP headquarters in Delhi.
The final numbers in Gujarat are 99/80 in favour of BJP. Even though they lost, the Congress is celebrating as well, since this is the first time in two decades that the win margin is so close.
However, the prime minister hailed the victory of development or ‘Vikas’, and said that the people of the country are hungry for development.
Here are the top quotes from PM Modi’s victory speech.
Even though the winning margin was so close, this is the sixth time that the BJP is coming to power in Gujarat, and Modi called this a historic victory.
He applauded the state BJP politicians for their continued hard and good work after he left Gujarat to become the prime minister.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also lashed out at the Opposition, stating that Congress launched “all sorts of conspiracies” to derail the BJP from winning.

Linking the BJP’s victory to ‘vikas’, he said that the people are ready to reform, perform and transform for the development of Gujarat.
Modi mocked his detractors who said that the GST effect will translate into BJP’s loss, and added that the people have proved them wrong.
Unlike their 2014 sweep, this wasn’t an easy victory, but Modi compared the two and said that after 2014, people are hungry for development. And warned the Opposition to not try and “derail the progress being made towards development.”
PM Modi insinuated that the Congress was playing caste politics, and that “the people of Gujarat have rejected this casteism.”
Even though the party is celebrating, this isn’t a clean sweep for BJP. The margin of Gujarat results is closer than what anyone in the BJP would be comfortable with, especially since it’s the prime minister and the party president’s home ground. Is it time for Modi to introspect or is all well?
