The Supreme Court on Thursday, 19 April, dismissed PILs seeking independent probe into the death of special CBI judge BH Loya.
Following the judgement, many took to Twitter to voice their opinion on the verdict. The petitioners for the case and journalists from The Caravan, who broke the story in November 2017 – that lead to the probe of an investigation in the case – defended their stance:
Caravan Journalists Stand by Stories
Will have to wait till one reads the whole judgment on the specifics. But Caravan magazine stands by each of its 22 stories. The stories speak for itself. And we will follow journalistically the qns that continue to puzzle the circumstances of Judge Loyaâs death.

Prashant Bhushan, the lawyer who presented the PIL, in the court tweeted:
SC bench headed by CJI dismissed the petitions seeking Indep Inquiry into Judge Loya's death, saying there's no reason to disbelieve 2 Bombay judges who said(w/o affidavit)that 3 judges slept in room with 2 beds. This despite the ECG &Histopath report falsifying Heart attack story

Journalists And Political Commentators Express Dismay
Sad day for justice. Feel let down by the SC #JudgeLoya https://t.co/LpJEsKJ6Ea

The sad truth is that if you are pro Govt today, you will hail the Loya SC judgement; if you are anti Govt you will criticise it. In such a toxic and politically surcharged environment, who cares for 'facts', rule of law or even asking genuine questions? #JudgeLoyaVerdict

Supreme Court's verdict on #JudgeLoya is particularly deflating for those like me who..naively.. believed in the power of good, solid journalism. @thecaravanindia

Enough evidence of judicial process being subverted in Sohrabuddin case. Unexplained questions around #JudgeLoya death too. Bench should have asserted institutional independence and fealty to their own by recommending probe. This is terrible https://t.co/MHZwVSbLYm

In the next criminal trial that I conduct I'm going to insist that it should be decided on documentary evidence, without investigation or cross examination of witnesses, in a summary manner. Thank you SC for being a trail blazer. #JudgeLoya

SupremeCourt calls the bluff of #DushyantDave,Kapil Sibal&Co!This cabal ought to have known that #JudgeLoya's sister Anuradha Biyani had submitted an affidavit to Manjula Chellur,ex Chief Justice of Bombay HC,saying, she saw no conspiracy&believed her brother died a natural death! https://t.co/b7e4MDygvR

Exactly, the petitioners motive is political & to malign judiciary system... They want to convey message of even judiciary is not being credible enough....& such petitions should be thrown in the dustbin & that their real place.. #JudgeLoya #JudgeLoyaVerdict

When judges depose as a witness to an occurrence, their statements ought to be treated like that of a common man. This is plain absurd. If the petitions were scandalous then criminal contempt should have been initiated. No Justice for #JudgeLoya pic.twitter.com/5qEuMcH0lE

Shocking and Sad day for Judiciary! SC declines to order probe in #judgeloya A suspicious death of a judge cannot be probed in our democratic country? This is #undeclaredemergency. SC only a handmaiden of the Executive?
