The New 100 Cr Blockbuster! Unaccounted Cash Seized in Tamil Nadu

  • Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls on May 16, the Election Commission has seized unaccounted money of over Rs 100 crore in the state, since the model code of conduct came into effect on March 4. Out of the total amount, the Election Commission said that it had returned Rs 47.91 crore after relevant documents were produced.

Since the Model Code of Conduct came into effect, Rs 73.31 crore has been seized by flying squad and Rs 32.19 crore by Income Tax authorities totalling Rs 105.50 crore,

  • However, the release did not mention anything about the Rs 570 crore seized in Tiruppur district recently. Election officers had seized the amount from three trucks but State Bank of India (SBI) later admitted that it was the bank’s legitimate cash.

  • The Income Tax department, meanwhile, has asked the district administration to move the vehicles back to Coimbatore chest of the SBI to execute search warrants.
