As the Gujarat elections draw closer, and demonetisation approaches its one year anniversary on 8 November, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has attacked the BJP government over GST and the note ban, once again.

The Congress Vice President slammed the BJP, stating that demonetisation, and the “improper implementation of GST” were “the two torpedoes the BJP fired at India”.

Gandhi also reiterated the Opposition’s call for protests on 8 November, stating that it will be observed as a “black day”. The announcements came after the Congress Vice President met with the party’s general secretaries at the party headquarters at New Delhi’s 24 Akbar Road.

Randeep Surjewala on Demonetisation and GST

Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surejwala also held a press conference to announce candle marches and rallies on 8 November, which will mark the first anniversary of demonetisation.

Who is responsible for the deaths for 150 people? Who is responsible for looting small time business? What punishment is it willing to take in the citizens’ court? Congress is going to observe ‘anti-black money day’ to espouse the pain by citizens who have been affected.

“The design and architecture of GST is in a mess. It is so confusing that those who impose it don’t get it, those who pay for it don’t get it either. The unorganised sector is the worst hit. The goods of mass consumption is being taxed in a way that it is leading to inflation of everyday items,” Surjewala said.

A near-united opposition of 18 parties, including the Congress, TMC, the Left, and the DMK had also called for protests against demonetisation on 8 November, the one year anniversary of the PM’s note ban announcement.
