‘Family is the Party,’ Says PM Hours After Priyanka’s Appointment

Hours after Priyanka Gandhi was appointed the Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, 23 January said that most parties in the country were run by families. However, for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party was a family.

“Decisions in our party are not taken depending on what one person or one family wants. As they say, in most cases in this country, the family is the party while in the BJP, the party is family,” he said, while interacting with booth workers from Maharashtra.

PM Modi’s comments are being seen as a jibe on Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into active politics.
