Smriti Irani, whose meteoric rise in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saw her become the HRD and Information & Broadcasting Minister in PM Narendra Modi’s first term, will now take charge of the Women and Child Development and the Textile portfolios in Modi Cabinet 2.0.
After losing to Rahul Gandhi in 2014, she continued to cultivate Amethi in the past five years and this helped her reap electoral dividends – she emerged a giant-killer of 2019 by defeating Congress President Rahul Gandhi in his home turf.
