Law Min Denies Kejriwal’s Claim That Judges’ Phones Being Tapped

The Delhi Chief Minister made these claim while speaking at the 50th anniversary of the Delhi High Court

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, while speaking at an event to celebrate 50 years of Delhi High Court on Monday, levied a veiled allegation against the government saying that judges are in fear of their phones being tapped.

According to ANI, Delhi Chief Minister said:

I have seen two judges say that “don’t talk on phone, it is being tapped”. I said phones of the judges can’t be tapped... I don’t know if it is true or not, but if this is true, then it’s dangerous. Where is the independence of the judiciary then?

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad immediately dismissed these claims.

I deny with all authority at my command the allegations that phones of judges have been tapped.

Further, Kejriwal also targeted the government for delaying judicial appointments. He said that the Supreme Court Collegium had given its recommendations for the appointments months back, but the Centre has still not acted.

Prime Minister Modi also addressed the gathering at this event. The Delhi High Court was established in 1966 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
