Social scientist Kancha Ilaiah Shepherd, who is embroiled in a controversy following his new book Samajika Smugglurlu Komatollu, has filed a case against Telugu Desam Party MP TG Venkatesh.

Alleging that the MP has made extreme remarks, calling for his public execution akin to the middle-eastern style, the professor approached the police and filed a complaint on Wednesday.

We have received a complaint. But no case has been filed yet. We are still investigating the complaint.

Earlier, the TDP MP had lashed out at the writer calling him a ‘traitor’. He said that Kancha Ilaiah was a traitor who is trying to create communal tensions and divide the society and further went on to call for his public execution.

The controversy surrounding his book refuses to die down, despite Kancha asking for a debate or a harsh critique of his book.

Recently, even the BJP and TRS parties condemned the book and said that the book was 'irrelevant' and 'impetuous'.

Another seer, Paripoornanda called him a ‘foreign-agent’, who is trying to malign the Hindu religion and Indian tradition.

He said that Kancha is conspiring to bring down the Indian tradition and impose a foreign tradition and culture in the country.

Further, making disparaging remarks about Kancha’s education, Paripoornanda said:

I doubt if Kancha is actually educated. The way the book is written shows that he never attained education. It looks like he bought education.

Giving an analogy of how an expat loses his right to an opinion about his native country, he said, “Once Kancha has disowned the Hindu religion he has lost the right to talk about its practices or its cultures.”

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh CID has already booked a case against the writer under Section 153A IPC (Promoting enmity between different groups based on religion, place and through other means) following protests from the Arya Vysya community members. They are even considering a ban on the book.
