What is being touted as a significant realignment of political forces ahead of the 2017 Uttar Pradesh elections, Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and Ajit Singh’s Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) on Tuesday held their first joint rally and agreed on Jayant Chaudhary, Ajit Singh’s son and former Lok Sabha MP as the chief ministerial candidate, reported the The Indian Express.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while addressing a rally in Badaut town, took on the BJP to say that the NDA at the Centre is “doing nothing” for a state that has “given 72 MPs to the party” in the Lok Sabha.

RK Choudhary, a former BSP leader, and Ajit Singh said they expect smaller parties to join the alliance in the run-up to the elections.

Adressing his 10th public rally since assuming charge in November last year, Nitish Kumar dismissed the BJP’s claims of forming the next government in UP. He said they only create rumours about their victory.

In Bihar, too, they (BJP) had claimed they would win, but the results are there for everyone to see. They are adopting a similar tactic in UP.
