Jagdeep Dhankhar Resigns as Vice President of India to 'Prioritise Health'

In a letter addressed to President Murmu, Jagdeep Dhankhar said that he is resigning to "abide by medical advice."

Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, resigned from his post on Monday, 21 July.

In a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, he wrote:
“To prioritise my health and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”

“I extend my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency, the Hon’ble President of India, for her unwavering support and the cordial working relationship we maintained during my tenure. I also express my sincere thanks to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the esteemed Council of Ministers. The Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office,” he added.

Dhankhar took oath on 11 August 2022, after having served as the Governor of West Bengal from 2019 until his election as Vice President.
