Bharatiya Janata Party veteran LK Advani broke his silence on Thursday, 4 April, after being benched by the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls with a blog titled ‘Nation First, Party Next, Self Last,’ where he said the essence of Indian democracy is respect for diversity and freedom of expression.
It is to be noted that LK Advani is the one who lead the 1990 Rath Yatra that supported the agitation against Babri Masjid and incited communal violence in various parts of the country.
“The BJP has never regarded those who disagree with us politically as our “enemies”, but only as our adversaries. Similarly, in our conception of Indian nationalism, we have never regarded those who disagree with us politically as ‘anti-national,’” he said in his blog.
Many Opposition leaders commented that this remark is an indictment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
