Madhav said that the party is focusing on the concerns of its allies and is working towards keeping them together.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Thursday, 17 January, BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav said that their government is committed to working towards the welfare of the people of the region, especially Assam.
Speaking about the party’s allies in the northeast, Madhav said that the party is working towards keeping its allies together. Referring to the AGP (Asom Gana Parishad) who walked out of the NDA government over the Citizenship Amendment Bill, Madhav said that they are appealing to the party to rethink their decision to quit NDA.
“We are trying to tell AGP that we should stay together and they should rethink their decision.”Ram Madhav, BJP National General Secretary
He further said that the Citizenship Amendment Bill is not against the people of the region.
According to the AGP, the Bill goes against the interests of the Ahom people as it could potentially lead to the granting of citizenship rights to Bangladeshi Hindus and their possible settlement in Assam.
Madhav also emphasised on keeping in mind the concerns of the alliance partners ahead of the polls and said, “We have fought the elections together and we should stay together.”
Madhav also spoke about the 2019 elections and said that the party has worked towards the welfare of the people of India and that they are going to the people with their “report card”.
