Amit Shah was elected as the president of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) for the second time on Sunday afternoon. Hw was re-elected without any opposition from within the ruling party.
Party veterans LK Advani and MM Joshi, however, gave the meeting a miss.
Shah had applied for the post on Sunday morning. The 51-year-old was the only nomination for the post.
The BJP constitution allows for two terms for a person to the party president. Shah has the feather of 2014 general election victory’s feather in his cap.
Party members like Rajnath Singh and Venkaiah Naidu have spoken about his election and the party’s faith in him.
Rajnath Singh, Home MinisterI have full faith that under Amit Shah ji’s leadership the party will achieve great success.
Along with the Delhi head-office, Bengaluru and Lucknow offices of the party burst fire crackers in celebration of his re-election.
Venkaiah Naidu, Parliamentary Affairs MinisterParty today unanimously elected Amit Shah ji for the second term as BJP President. He is the most capable person, he has organisational ability, good strategies, and above all, commitment to our ideology.
Later, the BJP chief met Advani at his residence in New Delhi, to seek “blessings” of the party veteran.
Shah will be also meeting Joshi on Tuesday, after his return from West Bengal where he will be on a day-long visit tomorrow, party sources said. He will also meet ailing party leader and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Both Advani and Joshi have been upset ever since they were made members of ‘Margdarshak Mandal’, which is seen by many as an indication that they have been rendered irrelevant in the party’s affairs.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Kapil Sibal commented on his re-election while slamming the Centre’s decision to recommend President’s rule in Arunachal Pradesh.
Kapil Sibal, Congress LeaderUnhe (Amit Shah) BJP president ban ne par mubarak aur unko ane wali haar ki bhi mubarak (Congratulations to Amit Shah for being elected has the BJP president and also for the upcoming loss).
