Former Indian hockey captain and Arjuna awardee Rajbir Kaur is revolting against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleging that money was involved in the process of allotting tickets for the upcoming Punjab elections, a Times of India journalist reports.

She had joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in June this year, saying that there is a need for upliftment of sports in Punjab and that the youth need a fresh political pulse to flourish and come out of the menace of drug addiction.

AAP has chosen HS Walia as its candidate for the Jalandhar Cantt constituency, the ticket for which Rajbir’s name was also doing the rounds. Rajbir has accused the party of choosing a financier over her for the candidacy.

Others in the mix for the ticket were names like veteran journalist Major Singh and hockey veteran Jagdeep Gill.

Rajbir is celebrated as the only Indian women’s hockey player who represented India in four consecutive Asian Games in 1982, 1986, 1990 and 1994.

When she joined the party, AAP Punjab in-charge Sanjay Singh had lauded how people who flourished in different fields were now joining AAP to change the system. The party said she would play a vital role in drafting policies for sportspersons in the state.

But there seems to be bad blood between Rajbir and the party after she wasn’t given the party ticket she was vying for.
