Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday, 5 February, said that Mamata Banerjee is protecting a corrupt police officer, referring to the West Bengal police standoff with the CBI that had broken out on Sunday, 3 February.

Speaking at a public rally in Purulia, West Bengal, Adityanath pointed fingers at the West Bengal chief minister, saying that she made a U-turn as soon as the Supreme Court passed an order on the issue.

“Nothing can be more shameful for a democracy than a chief minister sitting on a dharna,” Yogi said at the rally, saying that this was true especially in view of that fact that India has a leader like PM Modi who has made the country proud globally.

TMC Corrupt, Many Skeletons in Closet: Yogi

Yogi Adityanath also called for the people of the state to throw out the Trinamool Congress government, calling it ‘anarchist’, pointing out how the BJP had won a huge margin in UP without any violence.

According to him, the TMC government had no right to remain in power in the state, claiming that Bengal is gripped by political violence.

The UP CM noted that West Bengal had contributed heavily to the country and brought glory to India, but was now in the middle of a corrupt and undemocratic regime.

“There are several skeletons in the Trinamool closet, all of which will stumble out once BJP comes to power,” Yogi said. He said that once BJP comes to power, ‘Trinamool goons’ will come on the streets with placards reading that they were criminals just as goons of SP and BSP have been reduced to in UP.

He also added that the West Bengal government is embroiled in undemocratic and unconstitutional activities, stating that as the reason why a 'sanyasi' and 'yogi' like him was not being allowed to step on the soil of the state. Yogi had earlier in the day been denied permission to land his chopper in West Bengal and instead touched down in Bokaro.

Poverty, No Development in West Bengal, Says Yogi

Yogi, who came by road from Bokaro, Jharkhand to Purulia, said that he had seen much poverty and no development in Bengal on his way to the location, reiterating that the rest of the country under PM Modi had seen much improvement.

Yogi also brought up the matter of CM Mamata allowing Muharram processions but not Durga Puja, noting that this government had been questioned many times by the high court on this issue.
