Haryana police will file an FIR against a group of people who allegedly stripped a boy in public in Rewari in October, The Indian Express reported on Monday.

The youth was allegedly stripped to ascertain his religion, the report added. According to the police, the case pertains to an inter-caste couple where the girl belongs to the Scheduled Caste and the boy was from the Yadav community. The two of them had gone to the market on 10 October when they were allegedly harassed by a mob of around 20 people near the Rewari bus stand.

The woman told the police that they were initially asked to show their identity cards, but the man was eventually made to strip.

In light of the incident, Assistant Sub-Inspector Giri Raj, who was in charge of Rewari bus stand police post at that time would be suspended, Rewari SP Sangeeta Kalia told The Indian Express. “The official thought it was just a case of altercation and not a big matter. It’s possible that the whole matter might not have come into in his notice,” Kalia told the paper.
