A woman pregnant expecting twins lost one of her babies at Gurugram’s Sohna Civil Hospital as the doctors weren’t aware that the woman was carrying twins, reported Hindustan Times.

Hiranand Kumar, a resident of Alipur village in Sohna tehsil, took his wife Meena to the hospital on 20 January, where they had a baby girl. Twenty minutes after she delivered the girl, Meena went into labour with her second child, which could not survive. The couple alleged that the hospital did not conduct any ultrasound before the delivery.

The couple, who had been visiting a private clinic in Alipur through the course of the pregnancy, had conducted ultrasounds before, but were never made aware that they were having twins. Hiranand said he had visited the private diagnostic clinic in September and then on 17 January in Sohna, according to Hindustan Times.

I went to the diagnostic clinic twice with my wife. The doctors there told me that my wife is carrying only one child. On 20 January, my wife was feeling uneasy and had pain in her abdomen. Thus, I took her to Sohna Civil Hospital where she was admitted and a baby girl was delivered.
Hiranand Kumar told Hindustan Times

Alleging medical negligence by the Sohna Civil Hospital, the couple has filed a complaint with the health department,

The doctors at Sohna Civil Hospital said that they studied the ultrasound report by the private clinic, which mentioned that the woman was pregnant with just one child. So the staff wasn’t prepared for delivering twins.

We will conduct an inquiry into the matter. We have received the complaint letter from the father of the deceased child. A board will be constituted to probe the case.
