A 42-year-old airline executive was injured while consuming a ‘flaming shot’ at a hotel in Bengaluru’s Whitefield on Friday. The victim, Itishri, is a resident of Delhi and had come to the garden city for a conference.

According to a report in The Hindu, Itishri and her colleagues met for dinner and decided to try the flaming shot (a shot of liquor lit on fire) at the bar of the hotel, where she was staying.

Quoting RC Panwar, a friend of the victim, the report stated they were asked to close their eyes and gulp down the drink given by the bartender.

The group including the injured woman complied. “However, the victim felt a piece of glass in her mouth and fortunately did not swallow it. She spat it out but it had hurt her mouth,” said the police.

The victim claimed that the heat of the fire in the drink caused the glass to break.

The bar manager and the staff were allegedly rude to the group leading to a commotion when Itishri and her friends raised a complaint. The victim was taken to the hospital and approached the police later. However, they were asked to come next day.

The Whitefield police have filed a case against the hotel, The Den, under Sections 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to reports, this is not the first of its kind case in the city. Earlier in February this year, a 28-year-old lawyer burnt her face and neck while consuming a flaming shot from a bar on Residency road in Ashok Nagar. A case of negligence was registered against the staff of the bar by the Ashok Nagar police.
