A 25-year-old Brazilian woman, who was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on 14 May for allegedly smuggling cocaine in 106 capsules she had swallowed, was produced before a city court and sent to Tihar jail on Sunday, 20 May.

Cocaine capsules, containing 930 grams of pure South American cocaine, worth Rs 6 crore were extracted from her body between 14 May and 20 May by administering her laxatives, Hindustan Times quoted NCB officials as saying.

After being apprehended, the Brazilian was taken to the Safdarjung Hospital, where an X-ray confirmed that there were cocaine-filled capsules in her body, officials told HT.

The woman was taken to Safdarjung Hospital, where an X-ray confirmed that there were cocaine capsules in her body.

She was placed under arrest on Saturday under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and remanded to judicial custody by a court.

"She got the consignment from the South American drug mafia and was supposed to deliver it to African drug traffickers active in the National Capital Region," a senior NCB official told PTI.

According to Hindustan Times, the Brazillian national was sent to Tihar jail after a hearing in a city court. The NCB officials said that the woman is a ‘professional swallower of drugs’ and had visited India at least thrice in the past, the last time being in February.

The NCB officials have refused to reveal the name of the woman. The consignment was to be delivered to a Nigerian national in the capital, HT reported.

NCB officials said she had revealed that her employer had told her to reach a hotel in Karol Bagh, where the Nigerian national was to meet her.
