Indian courts have recently assumed the status of being quite quirky. It wasn’t too long ago when the Bombay high court told the Central Board of Film Certifications (CBFC) to “stop acting like a grandmother,” clearly hinting at the regressive attitude of the infamous ‘censor board.’

In a latest instance of courts making cheeky statements as part of the judgment is an order by a Khargone court in Madhya Pradesh. In a rather hilarious attempt to end a marital feud, the court said this to the husband, as reported by The Times of India:

Ask your wife every evening, “Hi darling, kaisi ho? Kya kar rahi ho (Hi darling, how are you? How was your day?).”

Yes, the judge chose to give some hatke love advice to the estranged couple.

The couple approached the court after Rashi (named changed on request) alleged that her husband Ramesh, a driver, does not pay enough attention to her. Even after giving birth to a baby boy, the fights ensued, following which she left the house. She petitioned the court to direct her husband to pay alimony towards the upkeep of their child.

Chief judicial magistrate (Khargone) Gangacharan Dubey’s response to the couple’s case was surprising to them and us, of course.

Giving gyaan on the nature of marital relationships, the judge deployed not legalese or logic, but made an emotional appeal to the feuding couple. He reportedly asked Ramesh to be “endearing” towards his wife.

If you thought that only Bombay high court was cool enough to give a fitting reply as a court order, think again, for this magistrate has tipped the scale in his favour.
