NIA is subjecting senior Punjab police officer Salwinder Singh to a lie-detector test today, in connection with its probe into the Pathankot terror strike.

After the special NIA court on Monday gave a go-ahead for the polygraph (lie- detector) test on Singh, the officials of the central terror investigation agency briefed CFSL experts about the possible questions that he could be asked.

Here are the questions Singh may be asked:

  • Why did the SP go to the shrine that night especially since he wasn’t a frequent visitor?
  • Why was he in his official car? How did the militants not fathom that he was a cop after seeing the beacon on his car?
  • Why were he and his cook spared?
  • Why was there such a huge gap between the time he was released and when he finally informed the police control room about the terrorists?
  • Why did his seniors not trust him when he raised the alarm about the militants?
  • How many phones was he carrying?
  • Was Salwinder remunerated in diamonds for allowing drugs to enter Punjab?
  • Was Salwinder Singh frequently visiting Bangkok to receive payments for his role as facilitator at the India-Pakistan border?

The Gurdaspur SP is allegedly close to Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur’s brother Bikram Singh Majithia. Majithia is facing inquiry on drug trafficking. NIA is also investigating whether Salwinder was duped into assisting the militants under the garb of drug trafficking.

Singh, who was posted as Assistant Commandant of 75th Punjab Armed Police, had claimed he was kidnapped by suspected JeM terrorists hours before they attacked the Pathankot Indian Airforce Station in the wee hours of 2 January. He was travelling with his jeweller friend Rajesh Verma and cook Madan Gopal when the alleged abduction took place.

The terrorists had slit Verma’s throat, almost killing him, and set Singh and Gopal free before fleeing in the police officer’s vehicle towards the IAF base.

Some alleged inconsistencies in Singh’s statements have prompted the agency to subject him to a polygraph test.
