A weekend trip turned fatal when a selfie took the lives of four young persons.

On Sunday, a newly married couple, G Perumalsamy and his wife V Nivedha, along with Perumalsamy’s sister Yuvarani, 20 years old, were visiting a relative, Illangovan at Odampatty in Uthangarai, reported The Hindu.

After the family spent time together at home, they decided to go to the Paambaru dam. Illangovan’s children - Sneha, 18 years old, Kanniga, 19 years old, and Santhosh, 14 years old, accompanied the three to the reservoir.

As the six of them stood in the water for a selfie, Santhosh slipped into the water, followed by the four girls. Perumalsamy managed to balance himself and rescued his sister Yuvarani, but the four of them drowned, said the media report.

They have been taken to the Uthangarai government hospital.

Sneha and Kanniga were studying at a college in Tiruchengode while their brother Santhosh was a class IX student.
