On the occasion of the 69th Republic Day, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) released a video in which the jawans can be seen hoisting the national flag braving extreme cold in Ladakh.

The officials hoisted the flag 18,000 feet above ground level at a temperature of -30 degrees celsius.

ITBP is deployed on border-guarding duties from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh covering 3,488 km of Indo-China Border and manning border outposts on altitudes ranging from 9000’ to 18700’ in the Western, Middle and Eastern sectors of the Indo-China Border.

ITBPF is a specialized mountain force and most of the officers and men are professionally trained mountaineers and skiers. Being the first responder for natural disaster, ITBPF has been carrying out numerous rescue and relief operations across the country.

Fourteen officials of the ITBP were also decorated with the President’s police medal on the eve of Republic Day for meritorious and distinguished service.

The ITBP returned with its float in the Republic Day parade on Friday after 20 long years, reported NDTV. The tableau shows the ITBP troops patrolling the China border on their newly-inducted snow scooters.

The float rolled down the Rajpath to the tune of the song 'Hum Sarhad Ke Senani'. It was accompanied by a small marching contingent of personnel wearing winter clothing.
