Naga Sadhus, or Hindu holy men, participate in a procession towards the Sangam, the confluence of rivers Ganges and Yamuna, ahead of the Kumbh Mela in Allahabad.

Union Minister for Science & Technology Dr Harsh Vardhan launched the special weather services for Kumbh Mela at a function in New Delhi on Monday, 14 January.

The services by the government will provide information about the prevailing weather conditions and forecasts to the people visiting Prayagraj during Kumbh Mela, reported All India Radio (AIR).

The government has set up four automatic weather stations that have been installed at four locations at Prayagraj, as lakhs of devotees are expected to visit the Kumbh Mela on 15 January.

The observational sites have been picked in such a manner that they are distributed in all four directions within 5 to 10-kilometre radius, covering the Kumbh Mela effectively. The shortlisted places include Allahabad University, Delhi Public School, GB Pant Institute of Social Science and Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences.

A mobile application named "Kumbh Mela Weather Service"  has also been developed to disseminate live-weather information.

The mobile app will also provide weather forecasts and warnings for Prayagraj for the next three days as lakhs of devotees start flocking to the mela.
