According to The Times of India, the unidentified man allegedly attempted to commit a theft, but failed as the family members had woken up. The suspect was held captive by Paswan's family, after which other residents of the area also reached the spot.

Sarai SHO Dharmajeet Mahto said, the suspect was brutally beaten up by a mob, leading to his death, reported Times of India.

A mobile phone and cutters were recovered from the victim's possession.

The first FIR has been lodged in connection with the murder of suspect on the basis of the statement of the SHO against unidentified persons, while the second is on the basis of Paswan’s statement against dacoits, according to Hindustan Times.
