  • Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, who were rusticated from JNU, have moved Delhi High Court, asking that the decision to rusticate them be held. They have asked that the decision be held until their appeals against the decision are taken up by the university’s appellate authority.

  • The two students have sought the same relief that was given to Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) President Kanhaiya Kumar. Disciplinary action was taken by the varsity against Kumar and other students for a controversial event on 9 February this year.

  • In its 13 May order, the court also said that if the appeals of the students were rejected, then the appellate authority’s order would not be put into effect until two weeks were up.
