A London court on Monday, 8 April, has rejected embattled liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya's appeal against extradition.
The High Court in UK has refused permission to Vijay Mallya to appeal against the decision of the Secretary of State and the District Judge ordering his extradition to India. Consequently, Mallya now has three working days, till 12 April, to make a second application to the court to admit his appeal, MEA sources told The Quint.
The 63-year-old former Kingfisher Airlines owner is facing charges of fraud, money laundering and violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). He had appealed against the UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid's decision to extradite him to India.
Mallya is wanted for willful default of over Rs 9,000 crore loan from the Indian banks.
The Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation are probing parallel criminal cases against him in the loan default case.
Mallya, who claims that he is ready to return the amount he owes to a consortium of Indian banks, recently lashed out against Indian authorities for pegging him as the “poster boy” of economic offenders.
A few days ago, there were reports that Mallya is “broke” and is left with assets worth Rs 2,956 crore, according to the submissions made at the court.
